02/12/26 - My colleague Chengyuan Hu has just published her latest work on infrared remote sensing using the Scanning High-Resolution Interferometer Sensor (S-HIS) to build aircraft-based remote sensing algorithms for VOCs. I'm a coauthor on this piece, which applies much of the learning we did for the CrIS VOC retrievals (ROCR algorithm) to S-HIS. This work is extremely exciting because it unlocks a large new dataset - S-HIS instruments have been flying on 38 separate field campaigns, dating back to 1998. All of this data is now a potential target for analysis using this algorithm. It's a whole new world of data. Check out the paper at the above link, if you're curious!
01/30/26 - I've been working on a set of code to run GEOS-Chem in ensembles. The goal is to generate an ensemble of runs turning off the emissions from individual countries. The code right now generates ~150 member GEOS-Chem ensembles to run 150 GEOS-Chem model runs in parallel. Check out the example code on my Github, and let me know if you're interested in adopting this.
08/26/25 - I've revamped my CodeOcean repository with a more informative runscript and README file. If you're looking for a sample of my coding abilities, this is a great place to start.
05/01/25 - I've started a new project with Professor Jason Hill at the UMN Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering. We'll be working to implement a new inventory of agricultural emissions of PM 2.5 precursors into GEOS-Chem in order to answer important questions about the human health impacts of animal agriculture world-wide.
02/07/25 - Another paper on the machine-learning satellite observation work has been published here.
12/13/24 - I'll be giving an invited talk at the American Geophysical Union's Fall Meeting tomorrow entitled Using ML-based measurements of tropospheric ethane from the Cross-track Infrared Sounder to estimate ethane emission fluxes in fossil fuel production basins.
09/11/24 - The University of Minnesota news has put out a research brief on our CrIS Ethane paper with some quotes from both me and my mentor Dylan Millet. Go check it out.
09/07/24 - Our paper on the CrIS Ethane retrievals has been officially released by Nature Communications. UMN is planning a press hit, which I'll share here shortly, but I'm very happy to see this paper come out at last.
06/14/24 - A new preprint is out with AMT, detailing the methods that Kelley, Dylan, and I have developed for the retrieval of VOCs from the Cross-Track Ifrared Sounder (CrIS). I've been working on this for two years, and I'm happy to have it finally see the light of day.
